Flood warning continues for Rock County

The Rock County Sheriff's Office issued the following press release regarding flooding on the Rock River and Lake Koshkonong:
A flood warning continues for Rock County area following heavy rain over the past 24 hours. The Rock River has exceeded minor flood stages in the Afton, Lake Koshkonong and Newville areas and forecasts are calling for additional precipitation through Friday afternoon. According to the National Weather Service in Sullivan, the Rock County area could see another 1-2 inches of precipitation before Friday evening.
At this time, there have not been any reports of closed roadways due to high water but the following areas are being monitored by the Rock County Sheriff’s Office and 911 Communications Center for potential flooding concerns:
  • Rock River in Afton area – Currently at 10.0 feet with forecasts of water levels to reach 11.0 feet by next Wednesday (Potential for moderate to major flood levels)
  • Rock River at Lake Koshkonong – Currently at 10.0 feet with forecasts of water levels to reach 11.4 feet by next Wednesday (Potential for moderate to major flood levels)
  • Rock River in Newville area – Currently at 6.35 feet, just below the moderate flood stage of 6.5 feet
  • Avon Township
  • Sugar River and Sugar River Park
  • South River Road – Janesville
  • Happy Hollow Park
The Rock County Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents to avoid traveling across high waters on roadways and report any hazardous conditions related to the flooding. Anyone that is concerned about flooding near their property is encouraged to contact the Rock County Sheriff’s Office – Emergency Management Division at 608-758-8440 Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm
