...Another glacial rock of note was brought to the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad station in Waukegan. It is believed that about 1900, the railroad transported the 10-foot-tall boulder from near the Lake Koshkonong reservoir in southern Wisconsin

Midwest Sees Near-Record Lows, Snow By The Foot

...On Jan. 20, 1985, Chicago recorded a record-setting low temperature of -27.

Bastardi said he doesn't expect cold as extreme as in 1985, but more like 1977-78, when nearly the entire country east of the Rockies saw a cold October and warm November like in 2009, followed by cold far worse than normal from January through March.

Heinemann loved to design and tinker

...And he built three boats, and in 1946 used one of them to save the lives of five boaters whose craft had flipped over on a rough Lake Koshkonong.

...The family ended up using the mower - and the three boats - at their summer cottage on Lake Koshkonong, his son said.

That's where Heinemann and his wife were staying on Aug. 18, 1946, when the wind was kicking up 2-foot waves on the shallow lake.

...He also continued upgrading the family cottage on Lake Koshkonong.
